Signs and Symptoms You are in Labor
Labor will usually start between 37 and 42 weeks of pregnancy.

 Signs that labor is approaching
  • Energy burst ("Nesting Instinct")
  • Lightening (when the baby moves lower into the pelvis)
  • Pelvic pressure
  • Changes in vaginal discharge (increased amount, blood tinged or thick and white)
  • Period-like cramping
  • Diarrhea
  • Low, dull back ache
  • Braxton Hicks contractions (that are irregular and come and go)

Signs of Labor
  • Contractions (that are timeable, do not go away with rest and intensify over time)
  • Leaking or gushing of amniotic fluid

When should you call your midwife or doctor?
  • Any labor symptoms prior to 37 weeks gestation
  • If you have a leaking or gushing of fluid
  • If you contractions that are coming every 5 minutes
  • If contractions become more painful
  • If you are unsure!
