Wednesday, May 08, 2019 - Lakeview wine event helps hundreds of patients pay for medicine

For the past decade, hundreds of patients at Lakeview Hospital and Stillwater Medical Group who could not afford their prescriptions received their medicine free of charge, thanks to funds raised at Lakeview Health Foundation’s annual Winemaker’s Forum.

The 11th annual Winemaker’s Forum fundraiser is set for 6 p.m. Thursday, June 6, at 7 Vines Vineyard in Dellwood. Wines from Benguela Cove in South Africa will be served, paired with small plates from Lake Elmo Inn. Live music and a live auction are also part of the event.

The Winemaker’s Forum has raised more than $615,000 for hundreds of Lakeview Hospital patients since the event’s inception in 2009. Every year, the foundation hosts its evening of wine and food pairings to benefit the hospital’s prescription assistance program.

“We are so grateful for the outpouring of support from the community for this important program,” said Paul Erickson, executive director of Lakeview Health Foundation. “Attendees at the Winemaker’s Forum have provided vital financial assistance to patients who would not otherwise have been able to secure their necessary medications.”

Guests at this year’s event will be able to interact with Johnann Fourie, head winemaker at Benguela Cove. The event will also feature a live auction with items including:

  • Five-night stay at Benguela Cove Wine Estate, South Africa
  • Ride in T6 Texan Trainer WWII vintage aircraft
  • Chicago trip for six including theater tickets, hotel stay and transportation to Chicago on private Learjet.
  • Private in-home wine tasting for 20.
  • White Bear Lake tour on 1952 Chris Craft
  • Private wood-fired pizza party and pontoon ride for 20 at Lake Elmo home.
  • Dinner and St. Croix River gondola ride.
Tickets are $150 and available at lakeviewhealth.org/newsandevents.
