Thursday, October 11, 2018 - 11th Annual Lakeview Health Foundation Gala spotlights Integrative Health Therapies

Therapies designed to help relieve patient stress and promote relaxation will benefit from the 2018 Lakeview Health Foundation Gala.

Lakeview Hospital's Integrative Health Program already provides hundreds of therapy sessions each year to men, women and children receiving care in the region. Healing touch, massage therapy, pet therapy, aromatherapy, healing arts and music therapy all help reduce anxiety among patients.

The 11th annual Gala will be held Friday, Oct. 26 at the JX Event Venue in Stillwater. Gifts made at the event will help support an expansion of the Integrative Health Program at Lakeview, by increasing the availability of the music and massage therapies to patients. In health care, music and massage therapy is the clinical and evidence-based application of music and massage interventions to help reduce patients' pain, stress, anxiety and depression. They can increase patients' motivation to become involved in their treatment. These therapies also provide outlets for the expression of their feelings as well as emotional support for family members.

One senior female patient at Lakeview Hospital wrote of her music therapy experience: "I had good thoughts over the weekend because of your visit. You've made my time here so special. I'm always cold but you bring me warmth."

Paul Erickson, Executive Director of the Lakeview Health Foundation, said: “As always, we are so grateful to our community for supporting the development of programs that help enhance patients’ experiences. I personally had the opportunity to speak recently with an oncology patient who was so thankful we had a music therapy program. She said it helps to lift the burden and stay more positive during her infusion therapy sessions.”

The Gala starts at 6 p.m. and is sponsored by Andersen Corporation. It features a four-course dinner by the Lake Elmo Inn, music and dancing and a live auction. Highlights of the live auction include a winemakers' VIP package, guided fishing experience, custom commissioned artwork by Steve Harmon, Hawaii timeshare and Minnesota sports fan package.
