Wednesday, September 12, 2018 - Community invited to find out more about volunteering at Lakeview

A hospital visit is often a worrying time for patients and family members. At Lakeview Hospital, dozens of volunteers help to make that experience a little more welcoming.

Lakeview Hospital Volunteer Services is looking to recruit more volunteers to help make a difference in the lives of the hospital patients and families.

Three information sessions in September will help explain the varied volunteer roles available. Volunteer Coordinator Kim Klisch will give a presentation and a mini tour of the hospital, and an active volunteer will share their experience of volunteering at Lakeview.

One-hour information sessions will be held at 9:30 a.m. in the Hulings Conference Room at Lakeview Hospital, 927 Churchill Street West, Stillwater:

  • Friday, September 14
  • Monday, September 17
  • Thursday, September 27

Some volunteers work as welcome greeters and gift shop attendants; others work with the Hospital Elder Life Program, meeting with patients in their rooms to talk, play games and offer connection. Some volunteers even team up with their dogs – through the pet therapy program – to brighten the day for patients, visitors and colleagues. Hand massage, physical therapy, Teddy Bear Clinic, oncology, lower level lobby desk, surgery waiting, and the emergency department.

Ted Wegleitner, president of Lakeview Hospital, said: “We have a tremendous group of volunteers and we rely on them.”

Kim Klisch, hospital volunteer coordinator, said: “Volunteering at the hospital is a great way to meet people and contribute to the community. We are seeking active, compassionate adults who are available on weekdays for a morning or afternoon shift once a week. We rely on our volunteers, but we are also able to accommodate travels and other needs for time off.”
