Wednesday, May 09, 2018 - Annual wine event to help pay for medicines will feature “game-changing” vineyard

The 10th annual Winemakers Forum will turn the spotlight on a “game-changing” vineyard as it raises funds for people who can’t afford their medicines.

Every year, the Lakeview Health Foundation hosts its evening of wine tasting and hors d’oeuvres to benefit the prescription assistance program.

This year’s event on June 7 will be held at the 7 Vines Vineyard in Dellwood, Minnesota. The featured wines hail from Latta Wines in Seattle, Washington. Wine Enthusiast named the Latta vineyard one of Washington’s Game-Changing Winemakers. Guests will get to meet Andrew Latta, owner of Latta Wines, and enjoy tastings of the small-batch, native-fermented, single-vineyard wines. Hors d’oeuvres catered by the Lake Elmo Inn will be paired with the wines and music will be provided by the Clay Knoll Trio.

Brooke Hyman, diabetes nurse educator, will speak on the impact of the prescription assistance program on patients with whom she works.

“The prescription assistance program is so important for patients with diabetes, whether their condition is long-standing or ‘temporary,’ such as women who are diagnosed with gestational diabetes,” said Brooke. “Some women are unable to afford the insulin that is needed to not only prevent complications in their own body as a result of their gestational diabetes, but also to the body of their unborn child. This program helps them receive the insulin that’s needed for optimal health during pregnancy – and gives babies the best start possible in life.”

Auctioneer Patty Brunn will lead a live auction featuring items including:

  • Border battle tickets to Vikings versus Packers games at Lambeau Field and US Bank Stadium;
  • A wine tasting party in your own home for 20 guests. In-depth wine education on regions and taste profiles from some rare, small-production wines;
  • A private dinner for eight at the Lake Elmo Inn prepared by chef John Schiltz. Wine is included.
  • A collection of rare, high-end wines. These large-format bottles are scored 92 or higher by Wine Advocate.

The wine raffle (tickets $20, available at the event) offers guests the perfect chance to stock their home cellar.
