Stillwater Medical Group specializes in Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FASD) diagnosis for children, birth to 18 years of age. The diagnosis process for FASD includes:
- Evaluation of prenatal, birth and previous medical history
- Measurement of head size and facial features
- Developmental assessment
- A complete medical examination
To make an appointment for a medical evaluation, please call the FASD Care Coordinator at (651) 275-3317. Appointments generally last 40 minutes and are scheduled during normal clinic days. FASD clinic providers can see three to four children per week. The average wait time for an appointment is less than 48 hours.
A neuropsychological assessment is performed by a neuropsychologist trained in FASD evaluation. These assessments are performed at Canvas Health (formerly Human Services, Inc.). Before seeing the neuropsychologist, the parent(s) consult with the Intake Coordinator to schedule the initial interview and pertinent information is gathered. When the appointment is scheduled, the parent(s) are mailed a health history and registration form to complete prior to the appointment. If occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, or physical therapy needs are present, the care team will work with the FASD Care Coordinator, who will assist the child and family in scheduling those services.
